Dementia Dilemma: Push Through, or Delay the Hairdo?!

Dementia Dilemma: Push Through, or Delay the Hairdo?!

What does perseverance look like when words are gone and the day goes sideways? We set out to honor a promise—no gray roots, ever—and walked straight into a masterclass on safety, dignity, and the tiny choices that keep identity alive. A new caregiver, a wardrobe wobble, and then the moment every caregiver dreads: knees buckling on a ramp and a slow fall to the ground. No injuries, just a spike of adrenaline and the question that lives in the gut—do we abort, or do we push through?

I take you beat by beat through the real dilemma: when to use the walker versus the wheelchair and how a gait belt and a one‑rep deadlift salvaged the transfer. We get transparent about the doubt and we also get honest about the grace that kept us moving. A stylist waited, cleared the room, and turned a noisy salon into a quiet sanctuary. Shampoo, color, cut, and something rarer: the look on my mom’s face when she recognized herself again in the mirror. That smile said we chose right.

Caregiving spares no one, but we always persevere.  If you’re navigating Alzheimer’s, mobility challenges, or just the daily logistics of being a caregiver, you’ll leave with practical takeaways on the kind of patience that keeps everyone safer and well groomed.

If this story made you feel seen, subscribe, share it with your village, and leave a review so other caregivers can find us. Tell me your small win this week—I’m cheering for every single one.

00:00:00.160 --> 00:00:01.600
Zaddy gotta leave the house.

00:00:01.679 --> 00:00:03.439
We trying to get our hair done.

00:00:04.719 --> 00:00:08.160
And what all you think could maybe go not right.

00:00:08.240 --> 00:00:12.880
I don't want to say wrong, but it definitely the hell wasn't going right.

00:00:13.359 --> 00:00:14.960
So all right, come on.

00:00:15.199 --> 00:00:15.839
Listen.

00:00:16.160 --> 00:00:18.000
You know it's about to be some shit.

00:00:18.160 --> 00:00:21.519
Parenting up caregiving adventures with comedian J Two.

00:00:22.160 --> 00:00:27.760
It's the intense journey of unexpectedly being fully responsible for my mama.

00:00:27.920 --> 00:00:38.479
For over a decade, I've been chipping away at the unknown, advocating for her, and pushing Alzheimer's awareness on anyone who stays.

00:00:47.840 --> 00:00:55.359
Caregiver newly, OG, and village members just willing to prop up a caregiver.

00:00:55.679 --> 00:00:57.600
You are in the right place.

00:00:58.159 --> 00:01:00.320
Hi, this is very.

00:01:01.200 --> 00:01:04.319
I hope you enjoy my daughter.

00:01:06.879 --> 00:01:07.120
Okay.

00:01:10.959 --> 00:01:13.359
Today's supporter shout-out comes from YouTube.

00:01:14.400 --> 00:01:20.319
Enthusiastic Jasmine hyphen L U1VX.

00:01:23.680 --> 00:01:32.400
Now, what I said was I don't know anybody that wants to be a caregiver for their panels.

00:01:32.959 --> 00:01:35.439
Jasmine said, You're an asshole, Jason.

00:01:35.920 --> 00:01:36.959
Okay, no, she doesn't care for it.

00:01:37.120 --> 00:01:38.640
I will tell y'all what she really said.

00:01:38.879 --> 00:01:40.480
How can you say that?

00:01:40.719 --> 00:01:43.040
I don't want to see them crashing out.

00:01:43.439 --> 00:01:52.799
I will take care of them, your parent when they reach to the point where they can't, and then I will be there for them.

00:01:53.200 --> 00:01:54.560
I know that's why, Jasmine.

00:01:54.640 --> 00:02:00.079
First of all, enthusiastic jasmine, kudos to you for telling me you ain't damn agree with my point.

00:02:00.560 --> 00:02:04.239
And now I'm gonna say you ain't you missed my point.

00:02:05.200 --> 00:02:24.240
I don't know exactly how I phrase it or what gave you that inference, but let me share with you and everyone else my perspective was there none, I don't know anybody who wants their parent to need a caregiver.

00:02:25.840 --> 00:02:37.439
So we don't want our parent to have a disability or a disease or cognitive decline, or all of a sudden they can't walk or they can't talk.

00:02:37.759 --> 00:02:50.560
We would like them to live to a ripe old age in full health and just fall asleep and don't wake up one day, but they were living independently.

00:02:51.280 --> 00:02:52.639
That's what I meant, Jasmine.

00:02:52.719 --> 00:02:55.039
So now holla at your girl if you like heifer.

00:02:55.520 --> 00:02:58.240
You still said it wrong.

00:02:59.199 --> 00:03:07.680
Now, if you would like to receive a supporter shout-out, please leave a review on YouTube, Apple, or Instagram.

00:03:08.000 --> 00:03:09.520
We're parenting up everywhere.

00:03:09.759 --> 00:03:16.960
If you want to be a recipient of a supporter shout-out, leave a review on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Instagram.

00:03:17.120 --> 00:03:19.520
We're parenting up everywhere.

00:03:28.240 --> 00:03:31.680
This episode is sponsored by Cafe Bartique.

00:03:31.759 --> 00:03:34.400
Angela and her team are fantastic.

00:03:34.560 --> 00:03:34.960
That's right.

00:03:35.039 --> 00:03:38.400
You heard me say a woman's name and she's a black woman.

00:03:38.560 --> 00:03:43.199
Now, if you happen to be a white man and want to sponsor it, holler at your girl.

00:03:43.280 --> 00:03:47.439
But right now, today, I'm giving all the love to Cafe Bartique.

00:03:47.680 --> 00:03:52.240
It is full of lattes, libations, and laughs.

00:03:52.479 --> 00:03:56.319
Try to get here if you get anywhere near Atlanta.

00:03:56.719 --> 00:03:58.240
What's up, parents and other family?

00:03:58.319 --> 00:04:01.919
It's your girl Day Smiles, and we're about to tell a story.

00:04:02.080 --> 00:04:06.159
I mean, I'ma tell the story and you're gonna listen and or watch.

00:04:06.639 --> 00:04:07.759
Imagine this.

00:04:08.719 --> 00:04:16.560
Zettie has 20 inches of hair, but four inches of grayness, sure, from her roots.

00:04:16.720 --> 00:04:24.240
And she made me swear to her that if she ever got old and needed care, that I would never let her brain wet show.

00:04:24.560 --> 00:04:25.519
So, what am I supposed to do?

00:04:25.680 --> 00:04:29.759
Now that walking is hard, getting her out the bed is hard.

00:04:30.000 --> 00:04:38.879
Now we had, it's sad to even say, we had a hairstylist that would come to the house.

00:04:39.600 --> 00:04:44.800
She herself has got it, she had two strokes, so she was no longer able to come to the house.

00:04:44.879 --> 00:04:46.800
So we now Zaddy has to leave the house.

00:04:46.879 --> 00:04:50.959
So I need y'all to just get in this space of Zaddy gotta leave the house.

00:04:51.120 --> 00:04:53.360
We trying to get our hair done.

00:04:54.079 --> 00:04:57.600
And what all you think it could maybe go not right.

00:04:57.680 --> 00:05:02.240
I don't want to stay wrong, but it definitely the hell wasn't going right.

00:05:02.800 --> 00:05:05.279
So all right, come on, listen.

00:05:05.600 --> 00:05:07.759
You know it's about to be some shit.

00:05:09.199 --> 00:05:10.000
Okay, fam.

00:05:10.720 --> 00:05:11.360
All right.

00:05:12.480 --> 00:05:16.560
The good thing was the appointment wasn't until 3 p.m.

00:05:17.360 --> 00:05:19.759
And the weather was nice.

00:05:20.959 --> 00:05:30.399
Zaddy's caregiver is the newest member of the team, and this was her first time she was gonna be leaving the house with me and Zaddy going to an appointment.

00:05:30.639 --> 00:05:39.439
I need y'all to understand the level of tension and anxiety that was in the room because she didn't really know what clothes to put on Zaddy.

00:05:39.519 --> 00:05:41.279
Y'all, I walked in the room.

00:05:41.519 --> 00:05:44.800
She had Zettie on her inside house clothes.

00:05:45.120 --> 00:05:46.879
Now, it wasn't pajamas.

00:05:47.759 --> 00:05:53.600
I was like, I know so damn well you don't have my mama on what looked like she watching TV clothes.

00:05:54.160 --> 00:05:54.959
But she did.

00:05:55.600 --> 00:05:58.160
But maybe to stay calm, and I did.

00:05:58.959 --> 00:06:07.040
So I went and found Zaddy a nice little leisure suit with some matching sneakers and her Gucci shades.

00:06:07.279 --> 00:06:13.600
Now she can't see shit, but I at least wore the lack of sun coming in her eyes.

00:06:13.680 --> 00:06:15.279
So I lay all of that out.

00:06:15.439 --> 00:06:17.199
We get Zeddy dressed.

00:06:18.160 --> 00:06:24.879
Now I don't know why, but that day Zeddy decided she didn't really want to cooperate.

00:06:24.959 --> 00:06:27.920
Now, this is what's tricky about Zeddy not cooperate.

00:06:28.319 --> 00:06:32.480
It's not like she fusses or frowns or hits she.

00:06:33.040 --> 00:06:34.879
She just becomes dead weight.

00:06:35.040 --> 00:06:41.759
You know when Zeddy don't want to do something because it's like you go to raise up her hand, and that's what I'm doing.

00:06:41.839 --> 00:06:49.600
Like you raise her right elbow and you're trying to put it inside the shirt, and she just lets it flop back down like deadweight.

00:06:50.639 --> 00:06:52.240
Like, Zeddy, come on.

00:06:52.319 --> 00:06:53.519
Help me felt he.

00:06:53.759 --> 00:06:56.399
First of all, I don't have gray hair for me.

00:06:56.800 --> 00:06:57.360
Alrighty.

00:06:57.519 --> 00:06:59.680
I do have gray hair, but ain't nobody see it.

00:06:59.759 --> 00:07:01.120
I already got my stuff colored.

00:07:01.279 --> 00:07:02.720
Girl, I'm trying to help you do something.

00:07:02.800 --> 00:07:06.639
So how about you put your arm in this damn shirt?

00:07:07.759 --> 00:07:08.800
She ain't one of those.

00:07:09.120 --> 00:07:11.759
So much so I had to turn her music off.

00:07:12.399 --> 00:07:15.439
Now we're getting close to maybe being late.

00:07:16.079 --> 00:07:17.519
Now we are in Atlanta.

00:07:18.800 --> 00:07:22.079
You can't be late for hairstyles in Atlanta.

00:07:22.240 --> 00:07:25.519
Even though they might be late, they might be behind.

00:07:25.759 --> 00:07:27.839
And but you can't be late.

00:07:28.079 --> 00:07:34.800
Otherwise, they grit on you, and you might even be charged some kind of demerit fee.

00:07:35.199 --> 00:07:37.360
So I'm rushing, I'm trying to get Zaddy.

00:07:37.600 --> 00:07:39.680
So, okay, so Zaddy's dressed.

00:07:39.920 --> 00:07:43.439
Uh we're walking out, and I think, huh?

00:07:44.959 --> 00:07:46.480
Should I get her walker?

00:07:47.839 --> 00:07:49.439
Should I get her wheelchair?

00:07:49.920 --> 00:07:55.439
Now I'm holding Zaddy's hands, and she is walking very gingerly, but she is coming with me.

00:07:55.519 --> 00:07:56.160
You know what I mean?

00:07:56.240 --> 00:08:00.000
She is mooding with me, and we making our way out of her bed.

00:08:01.439 --> 00:08:01.680
I thought.

00:08:04.000 --> 00:08:05.839
Well, it's two of us.

00:08:05.920 --> 00:08:07.279
It's me and the caregiver.

00:08:07.680 --> 00:08:11.920
We probably don't need any other walking assisted devices.

00:08:12.160 --> 00:08:13.279
Cool, no problem.

00:08:13.759 --> 00:08:15.600
We get out the house.

00:08:15.839 --> 00:08:21.439
We are walking to the car, going down the ramp in the garage.

00:08:23.040 --> 00:08:24.079
This is what I hear.

00:08:24.319 --> 00:08:24.720
Zach.

00:08:28.240 --> 00:08:29.519
Oh Lord.

00:08:30.399 --> 00:08:31.920
I stop and look.

00:08:32.320 --> 00:08:38.240
My mama is sinking down and her knees are buckling like she's in quicksand.

00:08:39.840 --> 00:08:42.799
The caregiver reaches out to try to stop us.

00:08:43.519 --> 00:08:45.039
The caregiver ain't big and smack.

00:08:45.759 --> 00:08:48.720
And I thought, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, you back up.

00:08:49.279 --> 00:08:55.600
Because what we don't have at J Smiles Comedy Productions is HR or workman comp.

00:08:55.840 --> 00:08:57.600
Ain't no HR, ain't no workman comp.

00:08:57.759 --> 00:09:02.320
Like you come in, what I'm gonna do sometimes is get you some warm milk and cookies.

00:09:02.399 --> 00:09:07.840
Okay, I might take you out the red lobster, but if you get injured, that's on you.

00:09:09.120 --> 00:09:10.480
I backed her up.

00:09:10.639 --> 00:09:12.639
Then I'm trying to catch Zaddy.

00:09:12.879 --> 00:09:15.120
Me and Zaddy both end up on the fly.

00:09:16.879 --> 00:09:20.559
Now it was a slowfall, of which I'm very grateful for.

00:09:20.720 --> 00:09:21.919
She didn't break nothing.

00:09:22.000 --> 00:09:23.039
I didn't break anything.

00:09:23.600 --> 00:09:25.519
Now we're sitting on the ramp.

00:09:25.679 --> 00:09:33.039
Have you ever tried to get somebody with dementia to stand up on an incline?

00:09:34.240 --> 00:09:35.840
Don't don't try.

00:09:36.559 --> 00:09:37.039
Don't try.

00:09:37.120 --> 00:09:38.399
I don't know what the hell I was thinking.

00:09:38.559 --> 00:09:39.519
So I'm standing there.

00:09:39.679 --> 00:09:50.240
I get Zetty and I prop her torso up against my knees so that she won't slouch all the way down and slide down the ramp.

00:09:50.639 --> 00:09:56.559
Zettie decides she wants to pull her pants leg up over her knees.

00:09:57.519 --> 00:09:58.399
For what, huh?

00:09:58.960 --> 00:10:00.080
You on the floor.

00:10:00.320 --> 00:10:08.879
The last thing I need now is for an ant or a nail or something to cut you or bite you that's in the damn ramp.

00:10:09.120 --> 00:10:11.120
Why are you pulling your clothes off?

00:10:11.360 --> 00:10:12.639
What you doing?

00:10:13.519 --> 00:10:15.759
She's not talking, but she's fidgeting.

00:10:16.080 --> 00:10:17.360
I'm like, oh shit.

00:10:17.440 --> 00:10:18.320
What are we on do?

00:10:18.559 --> 00:10:20.559
I look down, we are officially late.

00:10:21.919 --> 00:10:23.440
We officially late, fam.

00:10:23.919 --> 00:10:25.679
We later, we left the house.

00:10:26.080 --> 00:10:27.679
So I got a decision with me.

00:10:28.960 --> 00:10:31.519
Do we try to go or do we abort?

00:10:33.039 --> 00:10:37.519
We're on our way to get Zeddy's hair shampooed and colored.

00:10:37.840 --> 00:10:42.799
We were walking down the ramp and both her legs just buckled.

00:10:43.360 --> 00:10:47.360
And she started um sinking to the floor.

00:10:48.720 --> 00:10:58.960
What I did was in trying not to make her more scared, I just let her go to the floor.

00:11:00.639 --> 00:11:04.480
Now we're about to get the wheelchair and see if we can still make this appointment.

00:11:06.399 --> 00:11:07.519
You see this photo?

00:11:07.679 --> 00:11:10.000
Y'all see us down there on the ground.

00:11:10.559 --> 00:11:13.759
I'm looking at Zetti and I'm like, hey, mama, you think we should go?

00:11:14.480 --> 00:11:15.279
She can't answer.

00:11:15.440 --> 00:11:17.360
I'm really talking to myself.

00:11:18.720 --> 00:11:21.919
I text the hairstylist, I tell her what happened.

00:11:22.080 --> 00:11:22.960
Zetti fail.

00:11:23.120 --> 00:11:25.279
I'm trying to decide if she can still come.

00:11:25.440 --> 00:11:27.360
Because let me tell y'all one thing.

00:11:28.159 --> 00:11:40.879
If I'm in town, Zettie has the appointment, an afternoon appointment, and we actually got her fed, medicated, dressed, and outside the house.

00:11:41.039 --> 00:11:42.320
Now we still on the property.

00:11:42.559 --> 00:11:49.440
I'm like, shit, we are 75, okay, 72% of the way there, we roll in with this.

00:11:51.360 --> 00:11:54.639
I send the caregiver back into the house to do what?

00:11:54.879 --> 00:11:55.200
Right.

00:11:55.440 --> 00:12:01.600
Get the wheelchair and the stupid walker that I probably should have had in the first place.

00:12:02.080 --> 00:12:13.279
She praised that down with the uh the gate belt that you that you could put around their waist, and it looks like uh you can strangle somebody with it.

00:12:13.360 --> 00:12:14.639
Yeah, it's a really thick belt.

00:12:14.720 --> 00:12:28.960
So I put that around Zaddy's waist and I goose lift Zettie from the back up under her arms and under her groups, and I just say, Lord help me, I gotta do a one, two, three deadlift.

00:12:29.039 --> 00:12:34.639
And I'm thinking, I got one time, because then my bagging legs ain't gonna work.

00:12:35.120 --> 00:12:45.279
So I squat down, I'm behind Zedi, I put my knees in her buttocks, and I scooch and I say, Okay, mama, let's get up.

00:12:45.519 --> 00:12:47.759
And then what I say, one, two, three, go.

00:12:47.919 --> 00:12:59.840
Don't y'all know that Zettie like finger her well, she's treating her toes like fingers, and she backs her toes up up under her damn body, so that her toes go up under her knees.

00:13:00.000 --> 00:13:01.600
She's kind of in a squat.

00:13:01.759 --> 00:13:04.399
And I say, Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry.

00:13:04.720 --> 00:13:07.039
Push the chair up under both of us.

00:13:07.360 --> 00:13:08.159
Oh now.

00:13:09.440 --> 00:13:13.919
Me and Zed is sitting on me, and I'm sitting in the wheelchair.

00:13:14.559 --> 00:13:19.919
I am sure that wheelchair was not designed to hold both of us, but it was better than that.

00:13:20.559 --> 00:13:40.799
Now, hilarious is me scrunching, semi-tootsie rolling, semi-snaking, semi-second lining, semi-soul training to get my foot out, the ease out the wheelchair.

00:13:40.879 --> 00:13:49.200
So I like I throw my right leg over the right handle of the wheelchair, and I'm trying to scooch without Zeddy falling out.

00:13:49.360 --> 00:13:49.679
Okay.

00:13:50.000 --> 00:14:01.919
So Zeddy's body starts to kind of lean down like it's about to slide out the chair like a sleaky or like going down a sliding water or a water slide.

00:14:02.159 --> 00:14:03.759
I yelled at the caregiver.

00:14:03.919 --> 00:14:04.799
It wasn't kind.

00:14:04.879 --> 00:14:05.360
I did yell.

00:14:05.519 --> 00:14:09.200
I yelled fast and out, and it wasn't, it wasn't in my soft voice.

00:14:09.279 --> 00:14:12.000
It wasn't the outside voice, it wasn't a carry voice.

00:14:12.080 --> 00:14:16.960
It was like, I can't pick her ass up again.

00:14:17.279 --> 00:14:17.840
Huh.

00:14:18.159 --> 00:14:18.960
That's what I said.

00:14:19.120 --> 00:14:20.960
Anyway, we got through that.

00:14:22.639 --> 00:14:25.919
I'm wheeling Zaddy down to the car.

00:14:26.080 --> 00:14:28.159
Guess what the girl Zaddy says?

00:14:31.679 --> 00:14:33.919
What is your fume from, baby girl?

00:14:34.799 --> 00:14:35.759
Ay, ay, aye.

00:14:36.000 --> 00:14:37.200
I hear in the car.

00:14:37.360 --> 00:14:38.000
We drive.

00:14:38.080 --> 00:14:40.240
I'm like, all right, we're on the way.

00:14:41.679 --> 00:14:44.399
I need a drink just from that.

00:14:44.559 --> 00:14:49.679
Because also in my head, I'm thinking, am I making the right decision by even continuing to go?

00:14:50.320 --> 00:14:50.960
Because I don't know.

00:14:51.039 --> 00:14:52.000
Did she hurt herself?

00:14:52.080 --> 00:14:52.399
Did she?

00:14:52.480 --> 00:14:54.799
I mean, like, it could be a delayed reaction.

00:14:54.960 --> 00:14:56.480
Maybe her ankles gonna swell up.

00:14:56.559 --> 00:14:57.840
Maybe her knees are gonna swell up.

00:14:57.919 --> 00:14:58.720
And I was like, shh.

00:15:01.120 --> 00:15:05.440
The hairstylist says she ain't gonna charge me with they feet, and we can come on.

00:15:05.759 --> 00:15:06.720
She's waiting on us.

00:15:08.240 --> 00:15:13.039
Y'all we get there and she's gonna want to get out of the car.

00:15:13.919 --> 00:15:19.120
Now she's not mad, she's just sitting there kind of like, I don't know what you're trying to do.

00:15:19.279 --> 00:15:28.080
So I'm trying to scooch her legs and turn her legs around toward the ground so they can get out of the car, like over the footbell of the car.

00:15:28.320 --> 00:15:31.039
And she just ain't moving, she ain't moving and she ain't talking.

00:15:31.840 --> 00:15:35.919
And so I'm like, oh Lord, she's hurt, or she's disoriented.

00:15:36.559 --> 00:15:37.519
Guess what?

00:15:38.320 --> 00:15:51.840
A man walked by, and this heifer watches the man walk by, and as she's watching him walk by, it makes her head turn to the right, which is where the door is open.

00:15:52.159 --> 00:16:00.320
So she turns to the right watching this man, and that's how her body and her torso turns to the right where the door is open.

00:16:00.720 --> 00:16:07.039
Mama, I thought you failed, and maybe you were a little bit, you know, stymied or hurt, frustrated.

00:16:07.759 --> 00:16:09.600
First of all, how do you know that's a man?

00:16:10.000 --> 00:16:14.159
And how come you ain't just turned where you heard my voice?

00:16:15.200 --> 00:16:17.519
Anyway, I'm just telling you what happened.

00:16:17.600 --> 00:16:28.159
He gets it out of the car, get in the wheelchair, take her into the salon, it was magical.

00:16:28.720 --> 00:16:30.559
Why was it magical, Jay?

00:16:31.039 --> 00:16:39.360
Do you know not one other client was in the salon when we arrived?

00:16:39.519 --> 00:16:41.360
That has never happened before.

00:16:41.840 --> 00:16:46.960
I think the caregiver universe gods were like, hey, they've been through enough.

00:16:47.120 --> 00:16:48.799
We don't need anybody else talking.

00:16:50.000 --> 00:16:52.879
The stylist turned the music off.

00:16:53.200 --> 00:16:56.639
It was almost like having spa hair services.

00:16:56.879 --> 00:16:58.879
Quiet and them lights.

00:16:59.120 --> 00:17:01.279
I didn't talk, the caregiver didn't talk.

00:17:01.360 --> 00:17:04.480
We was just watching Zetty get her hair washed.

00:17:04.640 --> 00:17:09.359
She got a hair shampoo, she got all that gray washed out.

00:17:10.160 --> 00:17:14.799
Now, then the owner, it's a couple that owns it.

00:17:14.960 --> 00:17:17.359
A man, uh a married couple, man and woman, I think.

00:17:18.400 --> 00:17:18.640
Why?

00:17:19.039 --> 00:17:28.720
Yeah, y'all, how come with the man owner comes in to do something uh with uh their prep for the next day?

00:17:28.880 --> 00:17:33.359
Why is that he started smiling and gibberish talking?

00:17:33.519 --> 00:17:36.720
And she ain't said nothing to the three of us the whole time.

00:17:37.039 --> 00:17:38.880
I don't get it.

00:17:39.359 --> 00:17:41.039
But y'all, look at my mom.

00:17:41.359 --> 00:17:48.799
Look at how she's smiling, look at the care that this particular uh salon was giving her.

00:17:49.599 --> 00:17:57.359
The therapist, it's not a therapist, the stylist's name is Jen Jim.

00:17:57.519 --> 00:17:58.079
J-E-M.

00:17:58.319 --> 00:18:04.160
She's with Sidetti Chick in Atlanta at Capal's salon.

00:18:04.480 --> 00:18:10.160
And when I tell you, she took care of my mama and made that thing work.

00:18:10.400 --> 00:18:13.039
Zeddy got about six inches cut off her hair.

00:18:13.119 --> 00:18:14.480
She got some layers in there.

00:18:14.559 --> 00:18:16.400
Look at how she's holding her hedge.

00:18:16.480 --> 00:18:18.079
Look at how she's smiking.

00:18:18.400 --> 00:18:25.359
My mama looked in the mirror at herself and smiled like, ooh, I know her.

00:18:26.160 --> 00:18:28.799
Maybe maybe I know her.

00:18:28.960 --> 00:18:30.000
She wasn't talking.

00:18:30.079 --> 00:18:33.599
The only gibberish she made was to that man who walked by.

00:18:33.759 --> 00:18:38.559
But for me to see the look in her eye and she started smiling, I'm like, hell yeah.

00:18:38.799 --> 00:18:40.799
Jay, you made the right call.

00:18:40.960 --> 00:18:43.839
Sometimes y'all boy don't make the right call.

00:18:47.519 --> 00:18:53.599
We leave, get in the car, I try to hold Zay's hand.

00:18:55.839 --> 00:18:57.920
She starts looking a little pensive.

00:18:58.000 --> 00:19:01.440
So I decide right then and there she gets a treat.

00:19:02.319 --> 00:19:05.519
She don't even know if she's about to get a treat.

00:19:05.680 --> 00:19:11.680
She doesn't even know how proud I am of her that she toughed it out.

00:19:11.839 --> 00:19:12.799
She didn't give up.

00:19:13.039 --> 00:19:27.599
She kept walking in and around at the salon, like we had to go from the shampoo to sit in the chair to get your color put in to dryer to the styling chair.

00:19:28.319 --> 00:19:30.000
And she hung in there with me.

00:19:30.160 --> 00:19:31.200
You know what I'm saying?

00:19:31.359 --> 00:19:32.720
She really hung in there with me.

00:19:32.799 --> 00:19:37.839
So I'd say she was gonna get a smoothie and a chocolate chip cookie on the way.

00:19:38.559 --> 00:19:45.759
I am sure that didn't do anything for the dementia or for her digestive train.

00:19:46.240 --> 00:19:47.920
But sometimes, I don't give a shit.

00:19:48.480 --> 00:19:51.039
I think she's had a hard enough day.

00:19:51.119 --> 00:19:53.119
I know I damn had a hard enough day.

00:19:53.279 --> 00:19:55.759
So is Zettie gonna get the smoothie and chocolate chip cookie?

00:19:55.839 --> 00:19:59.759
And then when I got home, I did get a little of that 1730.

00:20:01.839 --> 00:20:02.079
Yeah.

00:20:03.039 --> 00:20:04.960
Uh it's unreal.

00:20:05.200 --> 00:20:09.279
We made it by to have our chitty chitty chit.

00:20:12.160 --> 00:20:13.279
The snuggler.

00:20:15.440 --> 00:20:17.920
We ain't gonna share but one today.

00:20:20.559 --> 00:20:22.960
Number one, number only.

00:20:24.160 --> 00:20:29.359
Zaddy is so much stronger than I think I give her credit for.

00:20:30.319 --> 00:20:37.519
Physically, she may be, you know, frail and a lot more fragile.

00:20:37.680 --> 00:20:41.200
She doesn't have the stamina that she once had.

00:20:41.519 --> 00:20:44.960
But that damn lady still has power.

00:20:45.519 --> 00:21:05.279
I I don't really know this, but I believe that when she saw and felt me putting forth so much energy to get her to stand up, and when she saw me trying to lead her to the car and lead her into the salon, it's like, all right, if they win it, I with it.

00:21:05.519 --> 00:21:06.559
But she just fought.

00:21:06.720 --> 00:21:07.359
Let me tell you something.

00:21:07.519 --> 00:21:15.599
If I fall flat on my ass and a little bit bump my head, I ain't tell y'all apart because I didn't want nobody to marry me.

00:21:15.680 --> 00:21:16.960
And a little bit bump my head.

00:21:17.039 --> 00:21:18.640
I'm not going to the head salon.

00:21:18.720 --> 00:21:25.279
I am calling the salon and say, you I mean, you can or you can't charge even a little fee, but I'm not coming because I'm not well.

00:21:25.359 --> 00:21:26.400
I'm jarred.

00:21:26.880 --> 00:21:28.319
I'm scared.

00:21:28.640 --> 00:21:31.039
Plymouth rock did landing on me.

00:21:31.519 --> 00:21:33.839
But I didn't give Zetty that option.

00:21:34.160 --> 00:21:36.160
But she couldn't ask for that option.

00:21:36.319 --> 00:21:38.960
But when I tell you, baby girl rolled with it.

00:21:39.839 --> 00:21:42.400
So yeah, my bag, Zeddy.

00:21:42.880 --> 00:21:46.319
I'ma stop selling you short, baby girl.

00:21:47.279 --> 00:21:48.799
Thank you for tuning in.

00:21:48.960 --> 00:21:53.200
I mean, really, really, really thank you so very much for tuning in.

00:21:53.440 --> 00:22:01.519
Whether you're watching this on YouTube or if you're listening on your favorite podcast audio platform.

00:22:01.680 --> 00:22:04.799
Either way, wherever you are, subscribe.

00:22:04.960 --> 00:22:05.759
Come back.

00:22:05.920 --> 00:22:08.960
That's the way you're gonna know when we do something next.

00:22:09.200 --> 00:22:10.079
Y'all know how it is.

00:22:10.160 --> 00:22:11.119
I'm Jay Smiles.

00:22:11.200 --> 00:22:14.480
I might just drop something hot in the middle of the night.
